Activist merges life's passions for cancer fundraiser

MaryAnn Cahoon of North Andover has a great imagination. She has thought of so many fundraising ideas for breast cancer that organizers of the Avon Walk For Breast Cancer have shared some with other walking teams.



Two of her ideas have become annual events. On Pink Up Day Cahoon coworkers at John Hancock purchase a $5 pink ribbon and dress up in pink to be judged on who has the best outfit.



For Cahoon yearly date auction, people come with their significant others to the John Brewer Tavern in Malden and bid on people they want a 10minute date with, including one free drink.



For the second year in a row Cahoon north face jackets for cheap Charlies Angels walking team was the No. 1 fundraiser for the Avon Walk, raising a total of $79,580 to find a cure for the disease.



two passions in life are my dogs Frankie and Tyson actually all dogs and walking for breast cancer, so I decided why not combine my two passions and raise more money for a breast cancer cure? says Cahoon. the families walk the course on Sept. 25 they will be treated to a big party with refreshments, a DJ, face painting, a chance to have a caricature drawn, and raffles for theme baskets. People can get photos taken of themselves with their dog in front of a doghouse cheap north face jacket with a sign that proclaims put breast cancer in the doghouse. The parking is free, and each family dog receives a pink bandana and a doggie treat bag.



Cahoon significant other, Paul Phillion, who owns Eco Environmental of Methuen, and Londonderry resident Deb Moore will don pink hazard suits to join the walk. Phillion will be walking with Tyson.

Walker Jessica Story of Lynn is still trying to figure out how to put together the 200 doggie treat bags for the event with her lively chocolate lab Lennon at her side.



have no idea how I going to package all the treats with a chocolate lab in the house, laughs Story. think this is a really great walk for the families, kids and dogs something to look forward to.

Her aunt has been fighting breast cancer for eight years and her best friend beat the disease four years ago, at which point Story joined Cahoon Charlies Angels team.



Story and Lennon are a certified therapy team, and once a week they visit children at a school, where Lennon helps children deal with anger and adjustment issues.



is an IT business consultant for John Hancock Financial Services in Boston, and she has been publicizing the Sept. 25 family dog walk on Facebook, at veterinary hospitals, on KISS 108, and by word of mouth.
